Lay Director’s Message
October 2009

Let me say thanks to one and all that helped with the planning, advertising, calling, mailing, and bringing food to last month's pot-luck meal. Baptists have always been known for their ability to cook and eat. After seeing the food that was brought and the way it was consumed, I think there is a little Baptist in all of us (ha, ha). A big thanks goes out to board members that put forth the time and effort to contact members of our Communities first two Walks. It was a special time to see our "ground breakers" recognized. Through their efforts and prayers we all walked through the open door that God provided for us to attend our own "best Walk ever". You know what the greatest thing about last month is? We get to do it again this month. So, come and bring something to the meal along with your appetite and watch the Baptist come out of you. Also, let's be a part of recognizing Walk's #3 & #4. I also want to give out a big shout to Mindy for sharing with us her fourth days.
She shared with us things that all of us were silently saying Amen to.

I asked this of my class, so, I don't want you to feel left out. I asked them to walk to the scene of the crucifixion. It could be during the time Jesus was on the cross or after He was removed from the cross. I asked them to look around and tell me what they saw. So, I ask you to write down what you see. I ask you look and see how these are gifts from God. I ask you, why did Jesus have to go through all HE did? Answer me this, what is the only required act for our salvation? He gave us so much more. When the Father speaks to you through your list, be ready to say "you did this for me".

Prayer Requests

  • Please be in prayer as the board seeks to investigate alternative sites for walks in an effort to reduce costs.
  • New board members will be elected in December. Please let a board member know if you are interested so your name can come before the nominating committee.
  • Pray for reunions to bring back those who have dropped out of the community. We long to establish the old relationships and rebuild our community.
  • Pray for the new community lay director who will lead the community next year.
2009 Walk's

At present, there are no dated walks, although Lorinda Herrod will be the director of a ladies’ walk in the spring and Maury Smith will lead the walk in the summer of  2010. Please be in prayer for the board as plans are made for the coming year.

Also, be in prayer for our community and yourselves as you seek leadership about sponsorship. You are essential to making walks work, because without your responsible sponsorship, there are no pilgrims.

Name Tags

Jeanie Plaia is in charge of nametags. We have several which have not been picked up. Please check with Jeanie at the next community meeting.

Sponsors, be sure to order nametags for your pilgrims.
Book Table
Remember to take books for the book table to First Methodist Church or bring them to community. We will continue to supply our own book table.
Community Needs
In order to be more effective the community needs two laptops and LCD projectors for the music and powerpoint productions for walks.

The projectors and laptops will enable us to always have the music available by using a screen to project the words. They would also enable the Music Teams to be familiar with their own equipment and not have to depend on borrowed equipment.

If you can help, please designate your offering or contact a board member.

Community Info

Your board has actively been pursuing ideas to improve our community attendance.

The goal of Emmaus is to have a community driven ministry which strengthens Christian workers by the opportunity for fellowship and accountability and sends them back to their churches to be actively involved.

Walks are intended for the growth of Christian leaders and it is through community involvement that we are to continue that growth in the fourth days.

Please plan to attend the walk reunions scheduled for the next several community meetings and remember the new format of a covered dish supper.

We want to rebuild our community for the glory of God.

Please support the Candlelights & Community Meetings.

News Flashes

Covered Dish Meals are taking the place of after community fellowship.

Bring a dish to share and come to the fellowship hall at Hillcrest Baptist. This will be a great time of fellowship.

Reunion for all those who worked or attended Walks #3 and 4. Come and be recognized by the community prayed for as a group. This was so well attended last month. Please come again

What a wonderful opportunity to fellowship and renew old friendships, especially with the walk reunions beginning.
